Meet the teams of the 1990s

Multiculturalism, gangsta rap, beanie babies, boy bands, the Trial of the Century, and the Y2K computer bug scare - the 1990s had it all and more. Meanwhile, at Washburn HS, there was only one head volleyball coach for the entire decade: Coach Diane Krueger ('89 - '03). There were a few other notable moments during this decade, including:

1990: The Hubble telescope was launched into space, giving us never-before-seen images of the deepest parts of our galaxy and beyond (4/24)

1991: A well-preserved 5,300-year-old Copper Age man was discovered in a frozen glacier in the Italian Alps (9/19)

1992: Mae Jemison becomes the first African-American woman in space (9/12)

1993: Intel ships the first Pentium computer chips, revolutionizing computer processing power on a global level (3/22)

1994: The Channel Tunnel was completed, connecting commuters under the ocean between Britain and France (5/6)

1995: The Space Shuttle Atlantis docks for the first time with the Russian space station Mir (6/29); the final "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strip is published (12/31)

1996: "Dolly" the sheep, the first cloned mammal, is born (7/5)

1997: The first "Harry Potter" book is released (6/26); the NATO Alliance expands into eastern Europe, extending an invitation for the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland to join (7/8)

1998: TV show, "Seinfeld" airs its final episode (5/14); astronaut John Glenn becomes the oldest human in space at the age of 77, thirty-six years after being the first American to orbit the Earth (10/29)

1999: The Euro made its debut to maximize the economic power of the EU nations (1/1)
